Operational description

The Strand-Century Lighting Board has two banks of individual dimmers on the top left side of the board will be referred to as:

  • GROUP 1 (upper set)
  • GROUP 2 (lower set)


  • In MANUAL operation they are controlled by the right hand module on the board.
    • On the MANUAL Cross-fader the left-hand lever controls GROUP 1 and the right hand lever controls GROUP 2.


In addition to the sliding dimmers in each GROUP there are corresponding two-position toggle switches.

  • For GROUP 1, the switches select MEMORY in the up position, and MANUAL operation in the down position.
  • For GROUP 2, the switches should be used in the down position for manual operation.


Circuiting Studio Fixtures

Each fixture on the grid may be plugged into a power socket. These sockets are numbered and the lamp will be called by the number of the socket it is plugged into.

On the QUICK-CONNECT panel, each yellow slider has a number on it that corresponds to a socket number. (They are connected). Each may be slid up and down and located on a numbered horizontal line. These numbers correspond to the CHANNEL numbers on the GROUP dimmer panels.

Thus, if a lamp is plugged into socket number 28, you locate yellow slider number 28 on the QUICK-CONNECT panel and then move this slider up to an UNUSED horizontal level number. The lamp is now circuited through to the board and will be controlled by the dimmer at the CHANNEL number that corresponds to the QUICK-CONNECT horizontal line number.

Note that you have-24 CHANNELS, thus the first 24 horizontal numbers on the QUICK-CONNECT can be brought through dimmers. Numbers 25 to 30 on the QUICK-CONNECT panel are CONSTANTS (Non-dims) and come up through the N/D buttons on the left lower part of the board.


Manual Operation

  1. Turn on the Right-Hand KEY switch to ON.
  2. The 'B' side of the top and bottom sub-masters should be UP.
  3. The MASTER slider should be full up.
  4. With lamps selected on various channels of GROUP 1 and GROUP 2 you can now do a cross fade. Or if you use the MASTER you can fade to black.


Operating The Micro-Q Memory System

The module for this is separate from the manual module. This module contains a micro-processor, with an entry keyboard and LED display windows.


Setting Lights Manually And Recording Settings Into Memory

  1. Place all switches on GROUP 1 into MANUAL (down).
  2. Turn manual KEY switch ON.
  3. Memory KEY may be either OFF or in the LOCK position, with 'all on manual' OFF.
  4. Manual SUBS - all up (A and B).
  5. MASTER fader - full up (Manual Module).
  6. CROSS-FADER levers - full up (Manual Module).
  7. Set individual CHANNEL dimmers. Then to douse the light and still retain your dimmer setting, just flip the CHANNEL switch up to the MEMORY setting, with memory turned OFF.
  8. Continue this operation until all lights in your scene are set.
  9. Next turn the memory KEY switch to RECORD.
  10. Press the ALL ON MANUAL button and the lights will come on.
  11. Program a PRESET number into the LED window display.
  12. Press MANUAL RECORD. Information is recorded into memory when the indicator light beside the PRESET window stops flashing and-remains ON.
  13. Remove the manual function by pressing ALL ON MANUAL to extinguish its indicator light.
  14. All lights are now OFF.
  15. Press the LOAD button above the SCENE MASTER dimmer to transfer the PRESET number into its window display. Lights will come on if SCENE MASTER is up.
  16. Your entire group of lights and their individual settings are now in memory.
  17. In order to protect these settings in the memory, turn KEY to the LOCK position for all production operations.
  18. To look at individual light levels of the lights in memory press the CHANNEL button and program in the lowest channel number of the group of lights in your preset. Now begin pressing the LEVEL button, and for each contact of the button, the channels will sequence upwards consecutively and the individual light levels will appear in the LEVEL display window. Note that these are NOT light meter readings, but are percentages of the amount of power going to the lamp.
  19. If you wish to use the CROSS-FADER on the memory module, press one of the LOAD buttons above the CROSS-FADER and kill the SCENE MASTER.


Setting Lights Using The Keypad

  1. Manual KEY OFF.
  2. Memory KEY set to RECORD.
  3. MEMORY MASTER and SCENE MASTER dimmers - up.
  4. Program your operating PRESET number into the display window.
  5. Press SCENE MASTER LOAD button.
  6. Press the CHANNEL BUTTON AND PROGRAM IN YOUR FIRST LAMP (channel no.).
  7. Press the LEVEL button.
  8. Program in a percentage reading and your lamp will light.
  9. To set your light accurately, using a light meter, delete step 8. Vary your light level by pressing the UP ARROW to raise the light level, or the DOWN ARROW to lower the light level.
  10. When light is set pull toggle switch to MANUAL and light will go off (manual side of board off).
  11. Now your next light can be set.
  12. When all lights are set turn KEY to LOCK position, and check all your light levels. (Set toggle switches to memory)


Linking Two Presets To Cross-Fade Without Sequencing

  1. SET SCENE MASTER OFF. MEMORY MASTER UP FULL
  2. Enter FIRST PRESET into PRESET window and press first CROSS-FADER LOAD button.
  3. Press CHANNEL button and enter 99 into channel window.
  4. Press LEVEL button.
  5. Turn KEY to RECORD.
  6. Enter next PRESET into LEVEL window.
  7. Turn KEY to LOCK.
  8. Press PRESET button and enter second PRESET into PRESET window.
  9. Press LOAD button on other CROSS-FADER.
  10. Push LEVEL button.
  11. Turn KEY to RECORD.
  12. Enter FIRST PRESET into LEVEL window.
  13. Turn KEY to LOCK.
  14. Task complete.


Deprogramming A Link Between Two Presets That Cross-Fade Without Sequencing

  1. Enter lowest PRESET into PRESET window.
  2. Press CHANNEL LINK 99.
  3. Press LEVEL button.
  4. Turn KEY to RECORD.
  5. Enter next highest number in sequence. (eb. -41 next # is 42)
  6. Turn KEY to LOCK.
  7. Enter second PRESET into window.
  8. Press CHANNEL button to 99.
  9. Turn KEY to RECORD.
  10. Press LEVEL button.
  11. Enter next highest number in sequence (see #5 above)
  12. Turn KEY to LOCK.
  13. Test normal sequencing.
    • If a TIMED dissolve has been linked, clear link first and then clear timed dissolve.


Automatic Time Dissolve Programming

  1. Put both crossfaders DOWN.
  2. Enter PRESET that you are fading from into PRESET window.
  3. Press right CROSSFADER LOAD button.
  4. Press PRESET and enter SECOND PRESET.
  5. Press left LOAD button on crossfader.
  6. Press channel button -enter '0'.
  7. Turn KEY to RECORD.
  8. Press LEVEL button and enter time for fade.
  9. Turn KEY to LOCK.
  10. Press preset and enter '0' to view countdown.
  11. Move levers up (and timed dissolve starts).
  12. To time dissolve back to first preset repeat procedure reversing presets.
  13. To prevent sequencing after your timed dissolve follow linking procedures.


Clearing Timed Dissolves

  1. Press preset and enter preset dissolved TO.
  2. Press CHANNEL button and press '0'.
  3. Press LEVEL button.
  4. Turn KEY to RECORD.
  5. Enter C. (clear)
  6. Turn KEY to LOCK.
